Superfast Broadband for Hinton-in-the-Hedges
Update on 10/9/17 - The Superfast Northamptonshire project is now executing phase three of its plan to address the circa 14,000 premises that make up the final 5%. The first stage three measures were announced in January 2017 and included two contracts awarded to Gigaclear covering around 6,300 premises. Unfortunately this did not include Hinton. The project team says that further phase three measures will follow, and although no timing has been given we understand there will be some news on this before the end of the year.
The current average broadband speeds you can expect to receive are in this table:
The Northants Superfast Broadband Team have confirmed that Hinton-in-the-Hedges is in the last 5% of properties and is due to be connected before September 2018.

The village is in discussions with BT to try and accelerate the timetable for upgrading the broadband implementation timetable, to be included with upgrading the normal telephone line to the village from Brackley.
Superfast Broadband is available now through Wurzel Ltd
For those who need Superfast Broadband in the short-term, a number of villagers have contracted the services of Wurzel Ltd, who have been supplying Superfast Broadband through a high speed wireless connection to the village since May 2015.
Detailed below are the costs of this service, which is in two parts, (1) installation and (2) a monthly charge. They require a commitment of a 12 month contract, and payment monthly in advance for the service. If you are at all dissatisfied you give one calendar months notice of termination.
Line 1 - Residential users
The Residential install cost will vary with the package speed you choose. It will typically be between £300 - £500, subject to site survey. Additional costs may arise if for example a receiver cannot be situated in an ideal position, or additional equipment is required for the installation such as a cherry picker, or a more expensive receiver is required in situations where the property has dense trees adversely impacting the signal. There are so many variations with wireless it is hard to put a single price to a whole village, it is much easier to price individual properties. They do site surveys before the install, and site surveys are free of charge.
Monthly subscription charges (example):
10Mbps £50 inc VAT, per calendar month
20Mbps £70 inc VAT, per calendar month
For those users requiring faster speeds they can supply higher speeds and bespoke packages tailored to specific needs.
Wurzel Ltd can provide an internal wireless router to replace your current BT/Sky routers (or similar) at a cost of £150 installed and configured. It may be possible to use your existing router but you will be required to complete the configuration yourself. So we recommend that you use the router supplied by Wurzel Ltd. You can discuss these options with them during the site visit and prior to installation.
All of the Line 1 options are based on a 1:20 contention ratio on the line, which will be synchronous, meaning your upload speeds will be equal to your download speed so the 10Mbps package is 10Mbps Down and 10Mbps Up.
(Please see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contention_ratio if explanation of contention ratio is required.)
Line 2 – Business
Install cost will vary on the package speed you choose, and typically could be between £1,000 - £10,000 depending on requirements.
Monthly subscription charges (example):
- 10Mbps 1:5 contention ratio at £250 + VAT
- 20Mbps 1:5 contention ratio at £300 + VAT
- 50Mbps 1:5 contention ratio at £450 + VAT
- 100Mbps 1:5 contention ratio at £800 + VAT
